Liner - Installation tips
Before
laying down the liner, the earthwork surface must be
properly compacted with no abrupt changes in grade,
de-watered, free of all rocks, roots, vegetation, sharp
objects and debris before laying down the liner. The
liner should be placed in a manner so as to be free
as is practical from tension. There must be enough slack
to accommodate changes in the grade and thermal contraction
of the liner. That mean there may be a few unsightly
wrinkle and folds. Don't create tension in the liner
by trying to create a wrinkle-free expanse.
If the
rock or sharp object cannot be remove then underlayment
is required. Underlayment can be any one of these: 4
oz to 16
oz Geotextile material, sand or clay will do. This will
add some cost to your budget.
If
you wanted cheap or free: old carpet
and newspapers will do just fine. No one
will see it under your pond liner. Most
carpet installer throw the left over carpet away.
